Sky Sports F1 presenter Martin Brundle claims Lewis Hamilton “isn’t super happy” with his Mercedes contract.
Formula 1 fans were left guessing for weeks as to whether the 7-time world champion would come back for 2021. In February, Lewis Hamilton finally inked a 1-year deal with Mercedes after months of negotiations.
Despite this, Formula 1 commentator Martin Brundle, who has done a few features with him, does not think that Lewis Hamilton is happy or content with his current situation: “We did a couple of features with him. He was very generous but a bit grumpy actually, I thought generally. It’s interesting that his right-hand man, Marc Hynes, is no longer working with him. I sensed he possibly wasn’t super happy with the way the negotiations have worked out at Mercedes.”
Hamilton heads into 2021 as the runaway favorite for the title, with the possibility of picking up 100 wins and poles along the way. Despite these huge milestones within arms reach, Brundle says he has been playing down the possibilities of that happening: “I did say to him – you’re going to burst through 100 poles this year at some point, most likely – and he went – why? McLaren was a quarter of a second behind us in Abu Dhabi, now they’ve got our engine; what about Red Bull, maybe the high rake works; and don’t count out Ferrari, and the Aston Martin will be strong.”
The 2021 Formula 1 season kicks off with pre-season testing this Friday at Bahrain International Cicruit.
