McLaren is looking to get used to the new engine supplier Mercedes during the F1 pre-season testing in Bahrain.
McLaren is heading to the 2021 Formula 1 season with a new engine provider – Mercedes. The duo has already had a successful experience of working together, but that has been before the hybrid era, so it is a fresh start for them. McLaren’s racing director Andrea Stella has confirmed that getting acquainted with the new power unit will be the team’s primary ambition for the pre-season testing.
“Testing is important because it gives us the opportunity to familiarize Lando [Norris] and Daniel [Ricciardo] with the new car as well as integrate Daniel into the team and continue our excellent collaboration with our colleagues at Mercedes-AMG HPP”, Stella says.
He has also shared McLaren’s goals for the opening day of testing: “The objective for the first day is to confirm that the main systems of the car function well as expected and to establish a good basis.”
The Formula 1 pre-season testing starts this Friday in Bahrain.
