This year’s rookie has topped the standings of the opening day of the Formula 2 pre-season testing in Bahrain.
As the 2021 Formula 2 season gets underway in a matter of weeks, the teams and the drivers have made their first appearances on the track during the pre-season testing. It takes place at Bahrain International Circuit.
The action started on Monday morning. After doing some installation laps and setup adjustments, the drivers started setting some competitive lap times. Carlin’s Dan Ticktum was the one to set the fastest time of the morning session – 1:43.021. Liam Lawson was second in his Hitech GP car, 0.6s away from Ticktum’s result. Jehan Daruvala set the third fastest time of the session with a 0.74s gap to his Carlin teammate.
The green flag was again in the air for the afternoon session. Lirim Zendeli, Oscar Piastri, and Felipe Drugovich all had their time at the session lead. However, it was a rookie from Charouz Racing System David Beckmann who set the quickest lap of the afternoon session and the entire day. He had a lap of 1:42.844. ART GP teammates Christian Lundgaard and Théo Pourchaire followed the German in the afternoon standings – 0.69s and 0.726s slower than the leader respectively.
The testing will continue on Tuesday, March 9th.
