It has been officially announced that the 2021 Azerbaijan GP in Baku is going to be held behind closed doors. This decision has been taken to obviously prevent a massive spread of the virus due to the event.
“While the global situation and pandemic response is continuing to improve, it has become clear that the 2021 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix race weekend has arrived too soon for BCC to safely host the event with fans present”, mentioned in the race organizers’ official statement.
After being canceled in 2020, this year’s Azerbaijan GP will take place on the streets of Baku. As always, this Grand Prix is one of the most exciting ones, especially in qualifying, where Valtteri Bottas took pole position in 2019, edging Charles Leclerc, who had crashed his car in Q2.
Fans that have already had their tickets moved from 2020 to 2021 will be allowed to use them once again, in the hope of attending the 2022 edition. Azerbaijan is the first location of the 2021 calendar to officially announce they will race without spectators.
