Nikita Mazepin has said he doesn’t feel proud of his social media incident, where he’s found groping a woman’s breast on a video.
The Russian will compete with Haas for the 2021 Formula 1 season. The sport’s community rallied to remove Mazepin from the championship completely, but the team kept him, and even revealing a shocking new livery with the Russian colors.
Speaking to the media, Mazepin talked about the incident that happened three months ago.
“I take responsibility for my actions, I’m very firm in that,” he said. “In regards to the video coming on to social media, I can say it was in my hands that I’ve put it there.”
Mazepin refused to reply when asked if she apologized to the woman in the video, Andrea D’Ival.
“I think her privacy matter is very important in this case. I don’t think it would be correct for me to bring other people into this very wide media discussion. And that’s why I’m not going to do that,” the Russian said.
“How I reflect on my actions is pretty clear; I’m not proud of it.
“I didn’t behave as I meant to behave, being in Formula 1 and the transition phase of realizing what I have achieved has been very short, and I didn’t adapt to it as I should have had.”
We will see Nikita Mazepin driving for Haas during pre-season testing, which starts next week in Bahrain.
