Charles Leclerc says he’s looking forward to how the idea of Formula 1 sprint races will develop, but he thinks a World Championship race should not be devalued by a sprint one.

“I find the idea interesting and I think we should try something like this,” Leclerc said.

“But we have to look at, for example, how we should do in terms of championship points.

“What’s important to me is this: The Grand Prix has to remain as the main prize, a World Championship race must not be devalued by a sprint race.”

Carlos Sainz, Leclerc’s new Ferrari teammate for 2021, added: “If we don’t try it, we won’t find out whether it works. But I agree with Charles – a Grand Prix has to be very special.”
