Mattia Binotto has confirmed that he will be absent during a couple of Formula 1 races in the upcoming season.
Ferrari had several races in the past F1 season without its boss being at the track. Mattia Binotto was unable to be with the team during select race weekends due to commitments in the team factory. This season the situation would repeat itself as the team principal had announced that he would miss some of the races in 2021 in order to get everything ready for 2022.
“My intention will be again not to be at all the races during the 2021 season. At some stage I will start missing some races and be back at Maranello, concentrated on 2022”, Binotto said.
The Italian also confirmed that Laurent Mekies would be in charge of all the operations during the race weekend during his absence: “I will always be in direct contact with the racetrack but as well we have a racing director Laurent Mekies who has a lot of experience with us. He has proved last year to be capable of leading the entire team over the race weekend so I am comfortable with the choice and not being sometimes at the track.”
