Formula E is back to Diriyah for round 1 of the FIA Formula E World Championship. Nyck De Vries started on pole with Wehrlein behind completing the front row.

De Vries got a great start and was way ahead of the pack just three turns into the race. Wehrlein had a lot of wheel spin but managed to keep his place, fighting it out with Rast for the second spot.

Nico Muller who was supposed to start on the _ position had to begin his race from the pit lane after stopping on the formation lap due to problems with his car.

Both DS Techeetahs did not have a great start, as by 3 minutes into the race they were sitting 18th (Vergne) and 20th (Da Costa).

With 40 minutes to go into the race, De Vries continued to lead the race with a gap of over a second to second place Pascal Wehrlein, but the Dutch driver was concerned about over-consuming energy. Third was Rast, struggling to pass the German ahead. Sergio Sette Camara was awarded a penalty after battery cooling issues, dropping to the back of the field.

The attack mode was activated with 42 minutes to go, but it was the Virgin drivers with 37 minutes to go who went for the first activation. At the same time, Tom Blomqvist was penalized for over-using energy during regen.

The battle at the top continued; Nyck De Vries led with 33 minutes to go, but second place was now for René Rast, as the German managed to overtake Pascal Wehrlein.

Then, with 32 minutes to go, it was time for most of the drivers to activate their first attack-mode period, with De Vries, Wehrlein, Rowland, Nato, Da Costa, Vergne, and Dennis all taking it.

Wehrlein, with 26 minutes to go, was starting to lose pace. The German was overtaken by Mortara and Evans, dropping down to fifth after a three-wide overtake from Mitch.

With 25 minutes to go, Alex Lynn tried a move on the inside of Sam Bird too late, crashing into his back and sending him around, then crashing him again on the front wing, leaving plenty of debris on the track, causing a yellow flag. Bird went back to the pits, but Lynn stopped on track and caused a Safety Car, bringing his race to an end.

It was Nyck de Vries, Rene Rast, and Edoardo Mortara on the top three on the restart, with 14 minutes and 30 seconds to go.

Safety Car was once again out with 11 minutes to go after Maximilian Gunther hit the wall hard on the outside and even moved it, ending his race. Nyck De Vries had just activated his Attack More, as did Rene Rast. The energy for all cars was then reduced by 8KW/H.

The moment Gunther hit the wall.

The green flag was out once again with 5 minutes to go. De Vries led the pack with Mortara and Rast completing the top three. Wehrlein was sitting 5th, behind Mitch Evans. Alexander Sims was sixth and Oliver Rowland seventh.

Stoffel Vandoorne, the second Mercedes driver, was sitting 9th with 3 minutes and a half to go. He was battling it out with Oliver Rowland for seventh.

In the end, it was Nyck de Vries who took the victory of round 1 of the Formula E World Championship. Edoardo Mortara finished second and Mitch Evans third. Full results below:
