As the start of the season gets closer and closer, Ferrari have had the team presentation for 2021.
Ferrari team principal, Mattia Binotto, was the first one to speak, saying that 2021 “would be a very important year” because many new challenges needed to be faced. The first one, as the Italian said, was the car. The SF21 was a development of the last year’s challenger. Moreover, Binotto mentioned the budget cap, which would be a challenge for every team. Finally, the newest thing for Ferrari was, of course, the new driver line-up, featuring Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
Speaking of the new drivers, Binotto introduced the new line-up, stating that it was the youngest driver pair at Ferrari since 1968. Here’s what he said: “We intend to construct our future around them.”
Then, the drivers were presented. They both underlined how magical and important it was to sign and be part of Ferrari, a moment you would never forget.
Sainz also stated that in five years his goal would be becoming a world champion and he did believe that Ferrari would be the best team to achieve that.
Leclerc later explained the meaning of the hashtag #essereFerrari, saying that it was a way of work and that was also meant to try to improve every time.
Both drivers highlighted the fact that Ferrari was a huge family which struggled and won together. Carlos Sainz also made clear that the main goal would be to recover and bring Ferrari back on top.
Then Sainz and Leclerc asked each other some questions written by Mattia Binotto, “il capo”, as Sainz said.
An interesting question was the following: “Carlos, do you think you can beat me [Charles] this year?” Sainz was very honest and said that for him it would not be easy to outscore Charles because he did not know the team and the car very well. Plus, in his opinion, the most important thing was to make Ferrari move forward together.
The last question, probably the most interesting one ahead of the new season, was: “We will be back in command, won’t we?” Leclerc was the one that answered since he had been in the team longer than his teammate, and he said: “When we have a new project for the car, it’s always difficult to know how it’s going until you try it out. More or less, we know that there are positive things in this car. A huge amount of work has gone into it to improve it. So yes, I hope we will be back in command soon.”
Mattia Binotto also concluded the video: “We are part of a team that counts more than any other of us singularly. We have inherited this enormous, exciting passion and we recently had disappointments that must not be repeated. I expect to see quality and a healthy, joyful competitiveness. To you, our fans who watch us and judge us every Sunday, Forza! Our first test and our first race are already in sight.”
