Austin Cindric has a week of a lifetime during Speedweeks: he won the Xfinity Series race, made his way into the Daytona 500, and had a very impressive run in The Great American Race. The reigning Xfinity Series champion shared how he felt being a part of such a huge event as the Daytona 500.
“It was definitely real for me coming to the green in the Duels”, Cindric said. “I had [Kyle] Larson in front of me, Ryan Newman behind me. I’m surrounded by some of the best guys, but you have to put that aside.”
“It was funny that after I won the race on Saturday I got a text from [Juan Pablo] Montoya and he’s like ‘hey, just remember that they’re just drivers, they’re not anyone special’… In some ways, it’s true. If I can learn from those guys how to be a better driver, how to be a better competitor and lift my game up, that can help me on Saturday short-term and, obviously, prepare me long-term, it just makes me a better driver”, he added.
“I love those challenges, I love being around the best and trying to elevate myself to that position”, Austin Cindric said in the conclusion.
Austin Cindric was 15th in his first Daytona 500 after being involved in a last-lap wreck.
