Alonso, who was injured in a crash while cycling in Switzerland last week, has now healed sufficiently to leave the hospital. The two-time F1 world champion suffered a fractured jaw in the accident, necessitating surgery.
He is contracted to drive for Alpine this year. With the Bahrain Grand Prix little over a month away, people speculated whether Alpine needed to find a replacement driver. The team has said though, the injury shouldn’t hamper his pre-season training.
Alonso hasn’t been in F1 since 2018, when he drove for McLaren. Since then, he has dabbled in other racing series, such as WEC and Indycar. He won the 2018 edition of the Le Mans 24 Hour driving for Toyota. His return to F1 with Alpine has been highly anticipated for months.
