The new company will work on the power units for Formula 1 cars.
Red Bull Racing’s and AlphaTauri’s future in Formula 1 is secured after the engine freeze proposal has been accepted during the F1 Commission meeting on Thursday. This means that both teams will still be in contention after Honda’s departure from the sport as the engine development is now prohibited until the end of 2024. Red Bull has already revealed their plans during this period.
Dr. Helmut Marko has revelaed that a new company, which will work on operating the engines will be founded. Its name is Red Bull Powertrains.
“That entity will be Red Bull Powertrains. Building Eight, one of our existing buildings, is being adapted into an engine shop. Everything is happening, now it’s starting”, Marko shares the status of the company to German media.
Red Bull’s advisor also speaks about the financial aspect of the project: “It is a one-time investment in the building and, above all, in test benches. But the operating costs will not be higher than if we had bought an engine elsewhere. It may cost more, but not significantly so.”
