Brazilian former Ferrari protégé Gianluca Petecof will make his FIA Formula 2 debut in 2021 driving for the Campos team.
Petecof will join Ralph Boschung in the Spanish team, still reeling after the recent death of its founder, Adrian Campos. Petecof is the reigning Formula Regional champion after a season long duel with Prema teammates Arthur Leclerc and Olivier Rasmussen. The 18 year old was a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy for 4 years beginning in 2017, before he announced his departure in January of this year.
Campos are taking a huge risk on Petecof, who has skipped the F3 category in its entirety, but it’s a gamble that they hope pay off as the team have been winless since 2019.
There are now only seven of the 22 spots left to fill, with only Charouz and Trident yet to announce either driver.
