Martin Truex Jr. is ready to recover on the difficult 2020 season.
The 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. did not have the year he wanted in terms of winning — the no.19 car driver visited the victory lane only once at Martinsville. Though Truex Jr. had a good season overall, he definitely wanted more victories that season. Joe Gibbs Racing’s driver spoke about how that motivated him to win as many races as possible during the Daytona 500 media day.
“We’re always fired up”, said Martin Truex Jr. “We are working hard to be better at things. Obviously, last year didn’t go the way we wanted. We had a lot of close calls and had some races we probably should’ve won and things didn’t go when we needed them to or we screwed them up.”
“That always makes you angry, it makes you want to go back and redo it, retry it. I think we’re better prepared this year for sure as a unit… We’ll see what we can do. I know the guys are working hard and I’m trying to find more speed in our cars and that’s always something that’s been a part of this sport and a part of being really really successful or just to have minimal success.”, he added.
“We’ve got to get our cars better, we’ve got to make better decisions, I have to drive better, make less mistakes… We’re really looking forward to that challenge”, the 2017 Cup Series champion concluded.
Martin Truex Jr. will start his season next Tuesday at Busch Clash at the Daytona road course.
