The first major endurance event of the year is underway and here is your recap of hour one of the 24 hours of Daytona.

Controversy already struck as soon as the green flag dropped when the number 25 BMW Team RLL car of Bruno Spengler ran into the back of the number 79 WeatherTech Porsche of Kevin Estre and spun him in front of the field. The number 79 Porsche was able to get going but ten minutes later his bumper fell off coming out of the infield section. This incident caused the first full-course caution of the event.

The number 25 BMW Team RLL car received a drive-through penalty for causing a collision. The 79 team will also have a penalty for having too many men working on the car in pits in another unrelated event, while the number 28 Alegra Motorsport was handed a drive-through penalty for replacing a driver on their team too late. Micheal Kessada is being replaced by Mike Skeen, who cannot drive until the morning because he missed night practice and the roar test.

Problems for favourites Corvette Racing as their number 4 car had technical problems and they are currently running 11th overall after getting their problems fixed.

Felipe Nasr has been dominant within this first hour. He has maintained over a three-second lead to the field since the start. After pit stops, Felipe Albuquerque challenged him for a lap but was denied the lead. Now at the end of the first hour, Nasr has pulled to a seven-second lead.
